Landslides require evaluations to determine the risk to structures, resources or developments and design mitigation methods to stabilize them.  An adequate landslide investigation require an understanding of the landslide morphology and geometry as well as an understanding of the materials involved in the landslide movement. Investigations require an accurate surfical map as well as an adequate sampling of the subsurface materials.  Soil and rock materials are typically sampled with backhoe dug test pits or through geotechnical drilling.
